Our Bee Caves ADU was built completely from the ground up, with no existing structure on site. From the start, our clients wanted a self-sufficient guesthouse that felt like a true extension of their home and lifestyle. Our clients wanted a backyard space where their parents and friends could stay comfortably, but they also wanted it to feel fresh, fun, and reflective of their laid-back California style. At the same time, they needed smart, hidden storage to support a long-term preparedness mindset, without sacrificing any of the design!
Every project presents obstacles for a contractor to creatively overcome. For this project, we needed to bring power from the opposite end of the property all the way to where this ADU was to be built. To do this efficiently we ran power through 3 attic areas of the house and punched out the back of the garage to minimize the amount of trenching needed. We began with full site prep, excavation, and a new concrete foundation before framing the structure and installing the roof system. We ran all new plumbing, mechanical, and electrical systems to support a fully functioning living space. From there, our team moved into insulation, drywall, interior trim, and finish work, carefully coordinating each phase to keep the project running smoothly.
Inside, large windows fill the living room with natural light and make the space feel bright and comfortable. The living area flows directly into the kitchen, with the bedroom and ensuite bathroom tucked just off to the side for privacy. The kitchen anchors the ADU and was designed to function like a full-size kitchen—not an afterthought. Storage and durability were top priorities, especially to accommodate long-term supplies and preparedness needs while keeping the space clean and uncluttered. We installed custom cabinetry, selected a fully integrated vent hood, and positioned the oven, refrigerator, and cooktop to create an efficient, everyday workspace. Small details, like cabinet finishes and hardware, add just the right amount of character without overcomplicating the design.
One of the standout features is the operable window above the sink. When open, it connects directly to the outdoor entertaining area and pool, turning the kitchen into a serving bar and making indoor–outdoor hosting effortless. Large sliding patio doors open wide to create a seamless hangout space on nice days, reinforcing how closely the ADU and exterior were planned together from the start.
The bedroom was designed as a calm retreat for visiting parents, offering comfort, privacy, and smart built-in storage. We completed full interior trim, tile, countertops, flooring, and paint to bring warmth and character to every corner. The ensuite bath features high-quality fixtures, thoughtful lighting, and durable finishes, with additional storage to support both short visits and longer stays.
We also built a separate pool bath as a durable wet space where guests can rinse off and transition easily between indoor and outdoor living. While it sits inside the ADU, it is not connected through an interior doorway, preserving privacy from the main living spaces. On the exterior, we finished the elevations to blend seamlessly with the main home while still giving the ADU its own identity.
Outside, the patio, pool, and ADU work as one connected environment. The entertainment area was carefully laid out so everything feels close but never crowded. Swivel chairs allow the space to flex—whether guests are watching TV, cooking, talking, or keeping an eye on the pool. The grill sits directly across from the kitchen’s serving window, keeping gatherings efficient and fun.
Beyond the lifestyle upgrade, this ADU adds major value to the property and land. It expands usable square footage, increases flexibility for future needs, and enhances resale potential, all while giving our clients a space that truly supports how they live and host.
