Our Eanes Creek homeowners loved their 1980s home, but it had one major problem. Every room was closed off from the other into its own distinct space, which prohibited an open flow & open sight lines throughout the home. When purchasing the home, the homeowners’ favorite aspect was the beautiful view into the private back yard, but the existing floor plan did not maximize the outdoor views in the way that the homeowner desired. After procuring 3 bids, the homeowner decided to go with Skelly Build due to our thorough pre-walk of the property and detailed estimate, which helped the homeowner see how thoroughly we had thought through the project.  Skelly Build and designer Emily Lauren Interiors got right to work and collaborated to completely rework the home’s design and begin construction!

The success of a renovation often starts with the work that isn’t always apparent in the finished project. In the kitchen, all cabinetry, countertops and backsplash were completely gutted and a majority of the appliances donated. Next new framing was done to accommodate a new double swing door out to the exterior, a new pony wall for kitchen island support, new posts for wall terminations and framing for a LVL beam for additional support. Plumbing and water lines were rerouted to the new location of the kitchen sink and gas lines were rerouted to the new location of the range. New spotlight, can lighting and under cabinetry lighting was installed, as well as several new switches and outlet locations. A new HVAC hood vent was installed, making sure to properly vent to the exterior area, and drywall was patched or replaced due to changes in the layout of the kitchen.

Next came the fun installs that are apparent in the finished product! Custom, flat panel, full overlay paint grade cabinetry was installed with soft close hinges and matte white pulls. The custom touches in the cabinetry continued with a paneled refrigerator, dishwasher and custom pull outs for a mixer and adjustable storage shelves. We installed beautiful quartzite countertops and backsplash, making sure to match the veining up the wall, as well as a quartzite waterfall countertop on the island. New door trim and baseboards were added as well as a fresh coat of Benjamin Moore Simply White paint in the entire kitchen to give the room a clean, modern feel. Perhaps the biggest change in the kitchen is the installation of two brand new kitchen windows, a patio door system, and new composite siding from the exterior reframing. Tons of natural light and great views are finally let into the kitchen for all to see!

In the primary bathroom, all plumbing and electrical was disconnected and the bathroom completely demoed out, save for some drywall. We framed out a new water closet and new master closet entry as well as two new windows and two new shower niches in the custom shower. Water & sewer lines were located for the location of the new toilet and new electrical lighting, switches and outlets installed. We built custom flat panel, full overlay stain grade cabinetry and installed gorgeous 2 CM Calacatta Viola Marble in the vanity, vanity backsplash, countertops, sink and shower bench areas. The marble waterfall edges of the double sinks in the vanity are a real statement piece in this bathroom. In the shower area, the marble pairs well with the Cle Tile Weathered White Square Tile used on the shower walls and Clay Natural Tile used on the floor. Brass knobs & pulls, paint, new doors & trim complete this stunning primary bathroom transformation!

To complete the remodeling of the rest of the home, we painted the full interior and installed new engineered hardwood flooring in the kitchen, living and upper hallway areas. In the laundry room, we installed the same Clay Natural Tile flooring as is used in the primary bath. Finally, the fireplace received a soapstone makeover, inlaid perfectly into the wood floor.

The end result of this project: high ceilings, lots of natural light flooding the space, an open floor plan and abundant new windows/doors, allowing our homeowner to enjoy their private backyard and live totally differently in their now open, modern home!
