Although new builds often shine with pristine finishes, flawless lines, and the unmistakable freshness of modern construction, they can sometimes feel as though they’re missing a warm sense of comfort and a little bit of soul. This is how the owners of our Skelly Rosedale Residence were feeling about their brand new property. Their home was beautiful and contemporary, but they wanted to infuse it with the character, warmth, and personalized details that make a space truly feel like home.

From the start, collaboration and craftsmanship drove every decision. Together with the owners, our team at Skelly Build focused on layering natural materials, enhancing textures, and refining architectural details that would bring personality and authenticity to the space. One of the most significant additions was the screened porch, designed as a peaceful extension to  the home—a place to slow down, enjoy coffee in the morning, or gather with friends in the evenings. Every detail of the porch was considered, from the structural framing and screening materials to the finishing trim and ceiling treatment. The result is a comfortable, functional outdoor living area that feels completely integrated with the home’s architecture.

Another defining feature of the Rosedale Residence was the introduction of cedar shingle siding, a first for our Skelly team. The homeowners wanted to soften the home’s modern exterior and bring in a sense of traditional craftsmanship, so cedar was the perfect choice. Installing shingles required precise layout, staggering, and fastening to ensure proper weather protection while achieving the rich, textural look the clients envisioned.

Inside, the focal point of the renovation became the fireplace, designed with a pecan wood mantle and a true brick chimney. Unlike a typical veneer installation, the homeowners opted for full-depth brick, which required substantial engineering and structural planning. To support the additional weight of the brick fireplace, our team worked with an engineer to design and pour a reinforced concrete footer and adjust framing to accommodate the load. The brick was laid with attention to both alignment and color variation, ensuring that the final product felt authentic and enduring. The pecan mantle—a nod to local Texas materials—was carefully selected and custom-finished to complement the natural tones of the brick. Together, these elements anchor the interior with warmth and permanence.

Throughout construction, attention to detail and teamwork were critical. Projects with complex architectural features, like the chimney and porch, demanded seamless coordination among trades—masonry, framing, electrical, plumbing, and concrete crews all working together to bring the design to life. Each phase required careful scheduling and communication to maintain both structural integrity and design intent.

In the end, what began as a modern, minimalist home evolved into something deeply personal. The Rosedale Residence now feels layered and lived-in, with textures that invite touch and details that tell a story. The cedar shingles, pecan mantle, and thoughtfully crafted porch transformed the space from new and neutral to warm and welcoming—a home that perfectly blends architectural precision with human comfort. This project captures what we love most about residential construction at Skelly Build: turning design aspirations into spaces that crisp, clean and beautiful, but also deeply lived-in from day one.
