Our Rolling Hills Home project centered around a full transformation of the kitchen, laundry, and adjacent sunroom, starting with a detailed demolition that removed existing millwork, flooring, lighting, plumbing fixtures, and portions of the ceiling. Care was taken to preserve select elements like the existing washer, dryer, and dishwasher, which required intentional planning and protection throughout the demo phase. As with many remodels, once walls and ceilings were opened, the importance of field verification and structural coordination came into play. The plans called for removing walls and introducing new openings, which meant Skelly Build worked closely with the design team to confirm structural support and install new headers that seamlessly integrated into the final millwork design.
One of the defining features of this home is the reconfigured kitchen layout. The new plan introduces a much more intentional flow, incorporating a dedicated coffee bar, appliance garage, pantry storage, and a highly functional island that anchors the entire space. This was not just a cabinet swap. It required careful coordination of electrical, plumbing, and appliance specifications to ensure everything landed exactly where it needed to. From pop up outlets in the island to under cabinet LED strip lighting and dimmable recessed cans set to a warm 2700K, every layer was planned and then field verified before installation to avoid surprises and deliver a clean final result.
The custom cabinetry by Skelly Built is where this project really shines. Built with stain grade rift sawn white oak, the perimeter cabinets feature a slim shaker profile finished in a warm Minwax Willowbend stain, bringing out the natural grain while maintaining a soft, modern tone. Integrated elements like Medium Swedish Modern cane drawer inserts and OGT waterglass cabinet fronts introduce texture and variation, while still feeling cohesive. The island creates contrast with painted cabinetry in Sherwin Williams Shoji White with a satin finish, complete with reeded panel detailing and custom millwork legs that ground the space. Even structural elements like headers were wrapped in matching white oak and fully integrated into the cabinetry, creating a seamless transition between structure and finish.
The beautiful material selections throughout the home create both durability and visual depth. The kitchen countertops feature a leathered quartzite called Mykonos, fabricated at three centimeters thick with an eased edge along the perimeter and a more detailed ogee edge at the island. A subtle three inch shelf detail at the sink wall adds both function and visual interest. The backsplash brings in handcrafted character through a vertical stacked application of Zellige Classique Gris Perle tile, paired with a soft Bone grout that allows the variation in each piece to stand out. The vent hood is coated in a Portola Paints Roman Clay finish in the color Mariposa, adding a soft, hand applied texture that contrasts beautifully with the clean lines of the cabinetry. Finally, trim, baseboards, and crown molding are painted in Sherwin Williams Oyster White to help maintain a cohesive palette.
Underfoot, engineered hardwood flooring in a Driftwood French Oak finish was carefully installed to match the existing home, feathering transitions between the kitchen, sunroom, and adjacent spaces so the entire area feels cohesive rather than patched together. This level of flooring integration requires a high degree of craftsmanship and patience, especially when blending new materials with existing ones.
The laundry room continues the story with thoughtful, durable materials. The flooring features an eight by eight Dandelion Grey ceramic tile laid with a Silver Shadow grout. Custom shelving and cabinetry are painted in Sherwin Williams Wall Street, while walls and ceilings carry through the soft warmth of Sherwin Williams Greek Villa. A reeded glass door stained in Minwax Willowbend ties the laundry visually back to the kitchen, creating continuity across the two spaces.
Skelly Build worked closely with the homeowner and design team to review selections, confirm dimensions, and solve challenges as they arose. Whether it was aligning cabinetry with existing crown molding, verifying appliance specifications before fabrication, coordinating countertop slab layouts, or adjusting lighting placement on site, each decision was handled with clarity and care. The end result is living and entertaining areas that feel intentional in every sense. It reflects a process where craftsmanship, problem solving, and communication all came together to deliver a space that will be truly special for years to come.
