Our Ridge Residence homeowners were ready for a big change. Their place had great bones, but the layout felt closed off and a little dated. They wanted something brighter, fresher, and more open, so that’s exactly the direction we took. This project quickly became one of those renovations where every decision, from layout to lighting to materials, worked together to create a home that simply feels good to be in.

After demoing much of the entire main floor of the home, we kicked things off in the kitchen, which was top priority. By painting the walls, trim, and ceiling in SW Alabaster, we instantly softened and brightened the whole main level. The perimeter cabinets in SW Rosemary added a quiet pop of color, and the oak-stained island from our Skelly Built millwork shop brought in the perfect amount of warmth. The stone selections were a huge part of the transformation too: Mont Blanc Quartzite on the perimeter (and up the backsplash!) gave the kitchen a clean, modern look, while the leathered Black Vincent slab on the island added depth and drama. With satin brass hardware tying everything together, the kitchen finally felt like the open, inviting, elevated space our homeowners had always imagined.

The built-in Miele coffee machine also gave us all something to be excited about. It’s sleek, hidden, and makes an incredible cup of coffee. Our project manager will gladly tell you that taste testing the coffee was one of the best perks of the job! It’s these little functional but luxurious touches that really elevate daily living.

Of course, every renovation has its curveballs, and The Ridge Residence had a memorable one: how do you get a 600-pound Thermador fridge into a house that sits atop a steep hill? Traditional equipment wasn’t cutting it, so our team built a custom ramp system to guide the fridge safely inside without damaging anything. It was a full team effort and a great reminder that topography matters, especially when heavy appliances are involved.

But the feature everyone talks about, the showstopper of the whole renovation, is the custom wine room under the stairs. Turning that awkward, uneven space into a full-blown, glass-front wine display took a lot of creativity and very precise engineering. The angles were tricky, the space was tight, and fitting in racking, insulation, and a Zephyr wine fridge meant every inch had to be planned perfectly. Glass-front doors showcase the collection, turning what was once unused void space into a signature architectural feature. The result is one of our favorite details we’ve ever built: a gorgeous, glowing wine room that adds instant character to the main level and feels like a true “wow” moment the second you walk in.

And speaking of standout spaces, the powder bathroom is another gem. Wrapped in Coco Tiger Pink wallpaper, it’s bold, fun, and impossible not to smile at. A floating vanity, fun brass fixtures, custom cabinetry and an asymmetrical wavy mirror give it a modern, artsy feel. It’s one of those small rooms that leaves a big impression, which is exactly what a great powder bath should do!

As the kitchen and powder bath came together, the rest of the main floor followed suit. We ran Meribel White Oak flooring throughout the entire bottom level and up the stairs, which instantly connected all the spaces and created a natural, easy flow. We added custom 5-inch baseboards, updated the recessed lighting, and gave the dining room its moment by installing Spellbound Evergreen Gleam wallpaper on the feature walls. Paired with the Rousseau Grande chandelier, the dining space now has this cool mix of personality and polish that makes it feel ready for everything from casual dinners to holiday gatherings.

From the punchy powder bath to the sculptural dining room, from the handcrafted kitchen island to the under-stair wine sanctuary, The Ridge Residence blends personality with function in all the right ways. It’s brighter, more open, and full of those custom touches (like built-in coffee!) that make everyday living easier and more enjoyable.
